I was having some issues with diatoms, hair algae, and cyano the past few weeks and I couldn't keep my glass clean unless I did it daily. I didn't want to use chemicals to fight what was going on, so I decided to give a 3 day blackout a try after reading about results online. So last Sunday I turned my lights off and didn't turn them on again until Thursday morning...........forgot on Wednesday so it turned into a 4 day black out. I didn't wrap the tank or anything like that, so it was getting light from the room but no direct sunlight or anything like that. My tank looks the best it has ever looked in the 2+ years this one has been setup. All the diatoms, hair algae, and cyano are gone. The water is crystal clear, corals look great, fish look great............I couldn't be happier with the results. I would highly recommend this to anyone debating doing it for this same issue.........it's free, painless, and works great.

You should think about doing a large WC at this point since all the algae released all the phosphate as well as other compounds when they decomposed.

thats the important part of blackouts, is to ensure proper export steps are taken, over skimming, water changes, phosphate/nitrate sponges etc. anything you can do to export during and right after tyhe black out if what makes it work otherwise you catch a quick break then its back full bore in no time.

Tank looks great. How long have you had the bicolor Angel?

The bicolor is the original fish in this tank, over 2 years now.
My skimmer is very much oversized for this system, it's been taking out junk great this week. I put in phosphate pads this week as well, and today it will get it's water change.
