I am looking for recommendations for a QUIET pump. I have a 33 gallon, long tank and am trying to find a pump that is quiet in the sump. My sump is a Pro Clear Aquatic System, has a skimmer, pump and limited space, but the vibration I hear is quite loud. The current pump is not touching the skimmer. Any recommendations to lower that noise would be greatly appreciated! Read more: maineaquaria.com/conversation/6609#ixzz42S3NLs1T

I'm using a Quiet One 1200 in my 40B sump. It worked great in my 29 with a single return. It's quite quiet. It's not quite as much flow as I'd really like in the 40 with my coast to coast, but I'm going to be moving the tank in 6 months to a year and will upgrade at that point. The 1200 is 300 GPH. I've liked its performance enough that I'll probably just go up a size or two when I upgrade. It has survived a couple of snails that managed to find their way into the sump in the old system. Got stuck once on a fragment of shell, took it apart, cleaned it, and it's still running happily. www.amazon.com/Quiet-One-Lifegard-Aquarium-317-Gallon/dp/B004PBALAE/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1457566920&sr=8-2&keywords=quiet+one+pump+1200

Im also a fan of quiet one pumps. Also in your plumbing if you soft line from the pump to hardline this will also reduce noise.

I've also heard some people put silicone mats under their pumps to step the vibration away from the glass and act as a dampener, though I haven't tried that.

This is what I do and it does work I got mine at Walmart for $5 I think in the cooking isle for putting under pots and such but I think they are cheaper on Amazon and it does make a big difference. A loud pump will still be loud though.
