I had a nice 33 gallon flat back hex that I was going to make a new sea horse tank out of. I made a overflow box for it today and tonight I marked every thing of to drill the back for the over flow. The tank had a heavy vinyl ship picture on the back as soon as the drill cut through the vinyl and started cutting the glass it just exploded. I believe it must have been tempered glass the way it went off. Really P---ed me off. It would have made a beautiful sea horse tank with the backing picture.
Any one ever heard of a tank having tempered glass on the back?
I may try to repair it but I don't know if I should put it back with glass or get a piece of Plexiglas. Can you put Plexiglas in a glass tank?

Sometimes they use tempered with thoes funky shape tanks, I probably wouldn't use acrylic as sinicone doesn't like to stick to it that well, but you should be able to get a piece of glass cut Im not sure how tall it is but you might have to go with 3\8

portland glass or sunrise glass can get you whatever you need including a drilled and tempered back if thats what you want just tell em where the hole needs to be so they can drill it before they temper it. it will be a special order if its tempered and you'll have to wait for it. but such is life.

Definitely tempered. (20 gazillion frikken pieces.)
Got it all cut apart and cleaned up today just have to order the new glass. I am just going to replace it with regular glass.

if you are replacing it with regular then go thicker than original. tempered is stronger than float if you replace it with the same thickness you may have a critical failure at some point.
