I did different phytos for a very short time. it was more work than reward for me everything seemed to go wrong that could, so I quickly got fed up with it. I'm not saying it's not a good thing to do or that it's not worth trying. I just had so many problems off the bat it soured on me real fast.
I found a lazy mans way to grow pods, massive sump fuge area vs tank volume. my sumps are always a minimum of 1/3-1/2 display volume. my current sump holds 55% of my tank volume in water and has sand/mud in containers for pod breeding and super coarse poly for shelter (pot scrubbers work great for this plus provide biomedia surface area, just has to be flushed of detritus regularly), in tank I make a rubble pile in the back corner that the fish can't get into the depths of. I have tons of little bugs swimming all through my sump. I also leave a benthic zone, a super low flow area that I never clean that is nothing more than a couple pieces of eggcrate for things that want to to attach there. the mulm that builds up in there since the area is small is a minimal impact nitrate wise, but provides a life zone for reproduction not commonly available in most "clean" tanks. whether it's an actual benefit or not I cannot prove, but theres some pretty cool stuff that usually grows in the bethic zones I never see elsewhere in tanks. my latest is still too new to be what I consider fully inhabited there are only a couple of sponges and such so far.

Day 1 vs day 5 N. oculata If you start doing it in bigger quantity I'd be interested I came home after 4 days to dark green bottles, the other strains will be here tomorrow. I ordered some glass jugs, no more plastic water bottles. I plan on raising the pods in a 29g brute container with live rock that has been cycled for months now. Anyway, once I get it going I could always send some your way.

I had small baskets filled with rubble rock in me bug tank so that I could remove them and hang them in my display for the night so they could swim out then place them back in the "hotel" morning.

I don't really have many pod eaters. Well I do but I seem to have so many. I pick up a frag disk and have atleast 15+ pods on the bottom.
But I do hear it's good to toss some in the display at night. I almost bought a culture to do that.

Mine(what little is left is struggling) Perhaps due to my nonexistent nitrates. A good place to get them is live-plants.com Nice selection good portions.

I am raising Tigropsis pods in a 5 gallon bucket right now, they are breeding. I feed them live microalgae and diatoms. If anyone is ever in the area and would like some let me know. Free or trade for algae.
