so going sps dominated semi mixed reef, I need some suggestions for LEDs for my 75g, i'm thinking of retiring the halides. obviously this topic has been hashed over many places but I would love some first hand feedback on various led systems, what you recommend and what to avoid.
the lighting has to be capable of supporting clams anems and sps

If your interested in a single fixture to light your whole tank I'd strongly consider the Orphrek Atlantic V2.1 or V2.1B full version.

my wife just laughed... a lot. Because of the $100 extra? Lol I mean either light is a big investment. You'd need at least 2 so your talking $1000 VS $1200

I don't know much about lighting but so far I have had amazing results with this and lots of people cannot believe how everything is thriving and growing so fast. Everyone told me I wouldn't do well with anything unless I spent large amounts of money but I only spent $99 on this for my 55gallon and it's working quite well for my 120 but I'm tired of climbing up the tank daily to turn it on and off. (I'm short)... This is what I'm upgrading to just for the full bar light effect and ramp option. Hope this helps! I'm still new so maybe I'm missing out on something but I like to think I'm doing well! Lol.

Radions have a strong following and a record of success.
Hybrid units are also an option, those that use t5 and led... ATI Power Module is probably the best known with an emphasis on t5's. Pacific Sun makes a unit similar to the ATI but has more focus on the led's and uses t5's for supplementation. I believe Geissman is coming out with a hybrid as well.

hmm 2 of those aquama might work for my 75g cheap enough at 99$ a whack. thanks for the idea wulf, I am not a huge fan of current lighting I have had plenty of fixtures made by them and have never been overly impressed.

Maybe just add another black box and put them on timers? Or if you wanted to ramp up and down you could check out the reef breeders.

Maybe I can figure out a way to find a like a dimmer timer thing, something that will ramp for me without. I'll look into it more, maybe ask an electrician! Lol

Lol Look up the storm controllers. foggman could give you some info as he's been all through these types of lights. the Chinese black box lights use 0-10v for dimming I think there is a couple diffent options out there for commercial products but it will require a little modification to the fixture. It is real easy to do your self and I would be more than willing to help you or walk you through it. You can also build your own 0-10v dimming mini controller with an arduino unit. There is already a bunch of code out there and I could help you out with that as well.

My hubby works with solar systems and electrical at work but I'm sure he'd be thrilled to learn some more and have you walk him through it or show him. If we remember we can contact you after the new year starts.
