There called an A.R.I.D (Algae Remediation Illumination Device) I found one company that makes them but found a Diy site I might modify. Thought I might try to spark a discussion

I found a forum were a guy did it for $180 I think I'll try and find the link but I was thinking of injecting air into mine to grow micro instead of the traditional macro ond scrap it like an old school scrubber

The actual A.I.R.D doesn't inject air and is used to grow macro

Ya I know but I like the idea of being able to remove the alge on a regular basis were I believe the ARID you just let grow? What it is is I got the DIY bug and I made the mistake of removing my ATS about 4 months ago and am now trying to find a more compact way

www.radio-media.com/fish/UserJski711onRS-2.jpgThis is something like what I am making, it doesn't take up a huge amount of space in the sump but needs about 12-18 inches of room above it. It takes about 3-4 weeks or so for the A.R.I.D to fill up then you empty it removing the nutrients that the macro used to grow

What about using a cheap Tlf reactor and just putting some of those waterproof leds in the middle pipe and maybe even some more on the outside of the reactor? Light that thing up like a Christmas tree lol

I have an old skimmer that has a center tube in it that I could rework to do it but my first thought was a water filter canister with light shining on it
