My frogspawn and Duncan corals do great, ive had both for over two years now and both have grown new heads. The duncan has gone from a 3 head frag bought from Greg to a 20 so head piece, I have also fragged this a few times and so id say ive gotten at least 50 heads off of this $15 frag. Now whats killing me is that I cant keep a hammer or a torch. They seem to melt with RTN within a few weeks I cant understand it because the frogspawn does great and looks like its tentacles should burst from how full they are.

Have you checked your water parameters?

Yes, all seem fine... Ca 400 Mg 1350 Alk 8.5 dKH Nitrates and phosphates below 2ppm usually.

Could they be getting stung? Frogspawn and hammers can usually grow side by side but torches are known for not getting along with either. Just a thought. Or possibly something might be picking on them and leaving the frogspawns alone.

I did see an asternia star on the plug but didnt really give it too much thought. I assumed they would go for all euphelia but didnt realise hammers might be tastier than frogspawn. Something to think about I guess. Ive never really noticed my mini stars on anything except the rock. I have just a few these days might get the rest out.

Do you place the torches up high? Maybe it's just me but my frogspawn and hammers normally like low to moderate light and flow. Buy my torches like moderately strong lighting and flow. Also are you buying them locally? I think Euphyllia are terrible shippers.

Yeah, my hammers are moderate light and flow. My older one went from 2 heads to 8 or 10 (with more coming) in about a year.

I havent had a torch in quite a while but I placed the hammer that I got from the frag swap next to the frogspawn and thought it would do fine. Do blastos have sweeper tentacles?

my hammer corals I got at the draft seem to be doing well cant tell yet if theyre growing yet. my green polyps are beginning to grow new stalks as is the Liams clove polyps making new shoots. im guessing my tank is maturing nicely :)all are on the floor of the tank with medium flow.

I've come to realize that sometimes you just loose I got a frag of Hollywood stunner a little less than a year ago and in that time it grew to a solid 3" colony and then about a week after this last draft it just started melting to were it pretty much gone now for no apparent reason nothing changed in the tank and nothing new hext to it

Sometimes you know what went wrong and sometimes you don't.

For me, it's one particular ricordea. I have a handful in the tank. 2 of them I picked up at the same time. One took off. The other just doesn't grow, and has been shrinking some lately. Everything else currently in the tank grows like crazy. It's just that one blue/green ricordea that will NOT play well. Oh well, I'm happy with everything else. I just won't buy that particular color again.
