Im all about the io rc, if you have the regular its not a huge deal. You can dose it up.

Instant Ocean here. Tried out Reef Crystals last year and things didn't like it. Went back to Instant Ocean.......been using it for many many years. I'm with you! Instant ocean is way better imo. Reef crystals is for people running elevated levels(Alk 11-12-Cal 450+) nothing worse then keeping your parameters completely perfect for weeks and then you do a WC and boom.... all your levels are out of wack because you change water was way higher in levels. Another thing RC is good for is people that don't dose and run mostly a softie tank. Then your using those higher levels to replenish what's been used up. Not ideal imo unless it's a softie/lps(no sticks) tank where the corals don't mind parameters moving around regularly. I used to be a RC lover but now I like keeping things at natural seawater levels. Because how can you beat what nature has already proven works?

In the big picture..........it all depends on your water you are using. For my well water, it appears that Instant Ocean works great and puts things right in line. I do add a little calcium and hardness buffer........but that's it, and things are growing like crazy.

My thoughts.
I have a crap ton of corals. Like 100, 200+ at times. Mostly lps. I thought I need Reef crystals. My corals didn't like the high alk and I was testing in tank at 14. I don't dose. So I decided to try something. A 50/50 blend on reef crystals and regular instant ocean. I been using this blend for 10 months and like it. I buy the 200 gallon boxes. Mix a bag each into 5 gallon buckets making sure I shake the crap out of the heavy buckets. I get good growth too, that's my biggest desire.
