As a combination of curiosity and cheapness (plus, I don't have a controller yet), if you're only looking to monitor water temps to protect yourself, wouldn't it be easier/cheaper to get a temperature controller with an alarm output? They're $15 on Amazon. You wire it to a power cord, plug your heater into it, and it keeps the temp where you set it. You wire an alarm to another input and it will let you know if the temps are too low. I'm probably missing something important here, but it seems like a simple and inexpensive solution. (I only know about them because I have one on my kegerator.  ) |

I just like the simplicity of buying one controller that has the ability to monitor almost everything and it's very simple to use. You can hook your apex up to run your house if you want to. |

Buying a controller to only monitor temp would be like hiring a hooker to give you a hug.

Nothing wrong with that. I just meant that buying a complete reef controller for monitoring only temp wouldn't make much sense.
