ok I can't find the original article that convinced me to try feeding skimmate to save my dwindling and dying sponges, fortunately I found one thats fairly close at least it outlines the awesome forms of life found in skimmate including the bacteria, it contains images only not much facts about them but if you look at a bunch of them and read about the various things you will not that the micron size varies greatly from small bacterium to large from micro crustaceans to ameoba. you will also note that diatoms are very prevalent which are probably hands down one of the best coral foods in the world. so please feel free to give a gander at that article then discuss. i'm drawing a blank at what else to say. www.waldonell.com/reef/reef-articles/what-is-in-your-skimmate/

I do want to note I feed some of the watery skim back into the tank not the hard sludge and I don't just dump the cup back in, because In the original article it mentioned finding very high concentrations of various bacteria because the bacteria was multiplying in the cup not merely being collected (how they acertained that I do not know I can't find the article). I generally use very small amounts around 1-2 ML at a time in localized areas up stream of my target.
