This is a very scary event, but shows that "mother nature" needs our help! Everyone in this world that keeps Reef tanks could help save these reefs. Don't get me wrong. I love my Reef tank, but maybe it's time for us all to pay it forward!!!!! We all frag stuff so maybe it's time we start thinking about repopulating these reefs instead of just harvesting. We do it for forestry, why not our oceans that give us that beautiful display in our living rooms!

While we can control the environment on our little glass box we cant control the ocean....many corals put back in would still die. I am for supporting more aquaculture and not naming many species we currently keep as endangered without an exception for aquacultures specimens or corals already on our tanks.

I'd have to agree with scoobnoob on this one. Where we live so far away from the reefs is kinda hard for us to "help"... we can't control mother nature although it sucks to sit back and watch the very things that we love get destroyed. What we can do as the human race is take care of our planet better so we don't have these types of problems.

I also agree with you guys, but I still believe in what I said. We have conditioned our specimens to withstand less than perfect conditions. I'm not saying we should all plan a trip to Fiji or the gbr, I'm just saying that it's time for the millions of us all that keep our reef tanks to give back.

you mean re sead the reefs with aquacultured corals? Yes and this is actually already being done around the world. Corals raised in captivity are less susceptible to temperature swings and other stress induced deaths. The ocean has been so stable in every aspect that corals can't handle the fluctuations.
