Lindsey, Mandarins are easily trained to accept frozen mysis. It is helpful if they don't have much competition for food in the tank during feeding and that they are in a very low current area or if you turn water moving pumps way down. I took a small clam shell, say 1" x 2" and fixed a net around it. I think it was what garlic cloves were bought it - like 1/4" thin plastic mesh. At first I would put a frozen mysis cube in it and put it in the tank near the mandarin. Later I would just squirt the thawed mysis into the mesh. They eventually learned to feed at the shell. A guy in Biddeford got me Red Mandarins that were very nice and it took less that a week to get them on frozen food. gotareef mentioned lps liking "dirty water". This is my experience as well. I was once told by A. Calfo that it is extremely difficult, if not impossible to keep a captive "mixed" reef where ALL of your corals are really happy. I learned this to be very true. Requirements to keep very healthy SPS are detrimental to many softies and LPS and the inverse is also true. I will say that there are exceptions to this and I am experimenting with it by settling on a maintenance schedule that is very lax with sometimes several months in between any water changes. I have 2 or 3 sps that don't seem to mind this. - Perfect! I use to be pretty nit-picky. Now I just don't worry about it and enjoy it. I haven't tested anything but salinity in a year or more.

Nice! He really seems to keep any algae trimmed short. He was tiny when I got him. That's usually how I like to buy fish. Maybe a little big for this tank soon. I've been giving fish to Rick and they end up in retirement in a HUGE reef tank at The Old Port Tavern.

Our tang is about half the size of yours, he's having a great time picking our live rock clean! We're hoping to upgrade to a 90 in the next year, so he'll have a big enough tank!
