So last night I was tightening my carbon reactor that is attatched to my bench beside my sump. The sump is drilled with a bulhead directly below the reactor. It leaked and in an effort to tighten it the mounting hardware gave. It crashed intp my bulkhead shattering my sump and the heart of my system....its an absolute PITA to get too due to my design dual sumps. Im planning a redesign with soft plumbing and only 1 sump. Ill be making some posts seeking simplification ideas and advise. Lance has loaned me a 40b to take its place while I build a proper sump amd Cutivated reef kicked in some heaters as I only had 1 300 watt that wouldnt fit in either tank while going sumpless. A huge thanks to both of them

Wow this really stinks! Glad you worked it out rather quickly and can't wait to see the redesign. Make sure you don't use soft pvc, I use that spaflex hose and love it.

I need to take some measurements, right now I have both tanks running independently, but no huge fuge for my mandarin, however it eats frozen so its a target feeding filtration balance at the moment. I realized that all the baffles in my 40b will fit directly into a 75, so I'm planning on going with a 75 if it fits instead of a 20 and 40. I'll check out spaflex hose. I feel like all my hardline pvc puts too much weight/pressure on everything, and there is not enough height to do the transition from one sump to another without drilling, which after this experience I want to avoid on the sumps.

Got 48" and some change!!!!! For the sump? What about width? I have a 75g display and my 40B sump hangs over the back of my stand! Lol I put a 2X4 under the backside of the 40B and it was a perfect fit.

Go 75! I've been thinking of switching my 40b for the 75 in my garage.

If you're in this hobby long enough you will have moments like that. a long time ago I was working under an old tank and was trying to separate two parts with a wrench, I slipped and blew out the bottom of my tank.... right over my head..... 75g of rock water sand corals and fish came right down on me. some how the sump did NOT break with all that stuff crashing down on it. what a mess. and surprisingly with all that glass and rock I didn't get scratched cut or even seriously bruised, just a little whiplash from the weight coming down on the back of my head.

I will add to this I was tracking down a vibration in my sump today and OMG my main return line come off .I was like Holly Crapp!!. I did a mad scramble and shut the master switch off killing everything going and started mopping up. luckily I only dumped about a gallon onto the floors. I now have a screw hose clamp on that line Lesson learned!
