I'm glad I'm not the only one that had to use 1×3"s to shim my tank

got a piece of spider wood for the tank. I'm thinking I probably should've gone bigger. It seems a bit tiny now that it's in tank.

Where did you get the Spiderwood? I recently bought a small piece off of Aquabid.

messed with the tank a little. took a couple of those plastic window boxes and cut them down to about 3". Filled it with MGOPS and capped it with Eco-complete. I'll use them to plant the Amazon swords and crypts and leave the rest of the substrate as black diamond blasting sand.

Siliconed the driftwood to a leftover piece of tile from the bathroom floor. I used three pieces of gas grill lava rock to elevate the piece so it won't be buried when I add the substrate.

Looks good. I boiled my Spiderwood for about an hour an it sunk on its own. What are you running for lights?

Yeah I wanted to anchor it because even after they are waterlogged they are easy to dislodge when you are working or netting around them. This way it should be a bit more stable. The lights are a single BML fish focus blue(13000k) dimmable LED. I got it just before they shut down their aquarium line. Now all they do is horticulture lighting. I guess there is more money in weed

Finally got the plumbing roughed in. 1 leak fixed and it's going on a half hour leak free at the lowest speed setting on the pump. I'll need to add water to the system before I can run the pump faster than level 2 but I'm going to drill a siphon break before I do that.
I do have one issue though. I need to make a standpipe for the open drain in the pf1200 overflow. The outputs took standard schedule 40 PVC but the inlets are too small. Does anyone know what size pipe it takes? Black ABS is thinner walled than schedule 40 right? If that's it, where can I get a piece?

Unscrew the drain and bring it with you to lowes? I always used 1" schedule 40 so idk why they're not fitting for you?

Yeah it suprised me as well. Schedule 40 fit f8 e on the drain side. But the inside hole is definitely a tiny bit smaller than the OD of schedule 40. I'm hoping that push coonect cpvc stuff will fit as it looks to be lighter weight.

I ended up using a 1 1/4" sink drain tube extension pipe. It was the closest I could find as Lowes didn't have any lighter weight PVC pipe. It was a tiny bit too small but a bead of silicone fixed that. Now the overflow is dead quiet without any water flowing through the emergency drain(the water level is setting just at the rim of the emergency drain).
Hooked up the finnex titanium heater to the apex. It's a single 300W tube. It took it two days to raise the temp from an ambient 70 up to the setpoint of 76. I will be adding a second heater soon, but it's nice to know if it gets stuck on I'll have a couple of days to notice it before it becomes a problem.
I still have to drill a siphon break in the return nozzle.
The tank is in full new tank syndrome mode with the water being a white cloud that you can't even really see through. Now that the pump is running there will be better gas exchange and things should being clearing up soon, as I'm hoping to be able to add the first fish in a month. Mostly fill the filter chamber with reef rubble but need to add the rest. Ordered some scuds from ebay to seed the tank/refugium. Now I just have to sit down and figure out how to neaten up the power cables so it looks clean under the stand.

Added the siphon break hole and tested the pump at higher speeds. Looks like 3 is as high as I'd dare go. 4 puts the emergency drain nearly to full siphon(although that's with the ball valve still around 2 o'clock on the main drain.
Also added the 5 quart plastic painters bucket full of aragonite sand for a RDSB of sorts to the first chamber(with the heater and drains)
