yeah the bonsai-scaping is a pretty cool effect in a tank if its done correctly.

The most difficult aspect of a bonsai reef scape isn't the actual aquascaping, it's managing nutrients with the lack of live rock for biological filtration.

yeah, I would surmise form the apparant lack of acreage for bacteria the sump would have to make up for the biological lack as well as maintaining a relatively light bioload along with other forms of nutrient export.
