Stopped in yesterday to the Augusta petco. The have some 40 breeders. Both the Tetra brand and a couple of the Aqueon tanks. The Tetra tanks say no drilling, but can the Aqueon tanks be drilled?
Also saw a Fluval Spec on clearance. I think it is the 2.5 gal tank. It's missing the pump, and is half off. Regular price is $70.

Aq can be drilled back or side bottoms are tempered That's good to know! They are Aqueon by All-Glass, and I'd heard All-Glass aren't always safe on ANY panels. I was looking at the 40Bs last night (they still have a giant pile of them), and they say "Do not drill glass enclosure." Not just bottom, by the sound of it. I just got off the phone with Aqueon, and he said he didn't know, that it should just be the bottom on the All-Glass ones that is tempered.

Yeah, I decided to go with the "Trust no company rep" approach, and will be checking for temper myself in the store. I had never seen the "Polarized sunglasses and a white picture on a cell phone screen" trick, but it works BEAUTIFULLY, so I'll be at PetCo on Sunday. Then I just have to buy glass drill bits, drill the tank without breaking it, build a coast-to-coast and plumb it all, and move from my 29... and... and... lol

Where are you located? In starting to get an extensive collection of glass hole saws....and a lot of drilling experience. I also have some over built schedule 80 off bulkhead I bought but never used.

I'm in Hampden. I've got a 38 mm and a 45 mm hole saw already coming. I'm figuring 3/4" return line and probably going to go with a Bean coast-to-coast overflow with three 1" lines out. I like the coast-to-coast, and my impression is that the Bean is a nice setup for a drilled tank. I'm completely done with this up and over stuff I'm doing now.

I avoid Aqueon products like the plague. Don't know about the actual tanks. Pumps and power heads are junk. Cheaply made. Plastic always breaks. Not worth it in most cases. At least that's my experience so far. Just trying to spare you a buck.

Oh, just a heads up guys... all of the fish in the saltwater department at the South Portland Petco has visible ich right now. I know, you can usually expect fish to come in with ich, but I am just giving the heads up. Plan on QT tanks and treatments immediately if you buy from there right now. Also, some really skinny not so healthy ones. Just a heads up. If anyone needs to know about tank transfer method I have a couple of awesome links that I follow that have worked brilliantly for me in the past and its very low stress on the fish. If not, I hear they have copamine (copper) in Gorham. Fresh water dip doesn't work on marine ich. Only relieves symptoms. They have some really gorgeous fish over there too. Fire angel, six line wrasses, fire gobies, gammas, several different types of gobies, purple lobsters, tangs, neons, just tons of new stuff. I let the store guy (Lee) know about the ich. Hopefully they can do something about it. Most likely not though, but some are pretty active, fat and healthy looking and would probably still recover just fine with proper treatment. Just don't make the mistake of adding them to your DT right away.
