Just wondering if anyone on here keeps a moray eel of any sort in their reef/community tanks? My friend who owns the 220 that I care for just added a large zebra moray in the realm of 15-18 inches. It's been in the tank almost 2 weeks now and has been a model citizen. Thinking about getting one for myself.

I've always wanted to have an eel as a showpiece fish in a soft coral reef tank. Now I'm thinking once I get my second 125 setup I'll move all my smallish fish over to that tank with the frags and possibly add a zebra eel to my current tank. Who knows right now though, all I know is it's a cool idea.

I've always found those long eels interesting.. I can't remember the name right now? Ribbon eel maybe? As far as a moray is concerned, I wouldn't dare, because with MY luck even if 90% were reef safe... I'd get one of the 10%..

I've kept eels in the past- snowflakes, chestnut, chain, golden dwarf. For the most part they are safe with corals. Not so much with certain fishes and inverts (mainly shrimp). Zebras are more mellow, but can grow to a few feet in length. Zebras and snowflakes are mainly crustacean eaters so use caution. If your banded/cleaner/fire/peppermint shrimps are all ready in the tank they will fair better if adding an eel. Other way around and the shrimps may be quick snacks.

Engineers are cool. Keep in mind the dig under most anything. Make sure your Rockwork is stable.

Engineer gobies are among my favorites. They are as about as eel like as you can get without actually having a moray.
