I'm looking to hear from people who have had experience keeping these fish in a reef tank. I've been reading up on them but I'd like to hear some real life experience with them. Pros and cons. Thanks.

I had one for a month to rid my tank of aptasia a few years ago. I had arranged for it to go to a larger tank once. The job was done. It was a great looking fish and was peaceful with tank mates. It picked at the rock constantly. I would suggest a large tank with lots of pods and established refugium to keep it fed.

I am on my second one. The first never did eat anything other than what it could get from the rocks. I tried everything to entice it to eat, and built a number of contraptions but nothing worked. Live food and constant restocking of pods kept him alive for 8 months. When he went downhill it was fast.
The one we have now we ONLY purchased after watching it eat frozen Mysis shrimp at the fish store. He is an absolute pig. Always the first one there at feeding time. Eats all frozen PE Mysis, regular Mysis, and brine shrimp. This one has been with us for almost 1.5 years now. Great fish, very active, swims to the front of the tank whenever someone walks by.
If you buy one that you don't see eat it is in my book risky. If live food is okay with you if they don't each frozen then fine. Of course every other fish in my tank also loved the live food. One live food I wish I had tried with the first one we had was white worms. They are easy to grow, a culture from Angels Plus is only 9.95, and I had read of good success feeding them to Copperbands.

I used to feed my butterfly (not a copperband) mussels on the half shell.

I tried feeding mussels on the half shell to my first Copperband with no success. Also tried various clams, scallops, and so on. They are real finicky eaters, which is why our second one was only purchased after seeing it eat frozen Mysis at the fish store. Which by the way was Easy Aquariums.

Mines been a model citizen. Eats mysis and scallop pieces, and LOVES fresh clam.
