Hello everyone. Today I was at petco and I saw this really awesome fish. However the labels and the staff were very misleading. In have no clue what kind of fish this is. According to the petco, it is either a spotted hawkfish or a spotted grouper. Can someone help identity it and or give me some links to info about it? Thanks!

Hard to tell. If it's perched there sitting on it's fins, it could be a hawkfish.
If it's a grouper.........you definitely don't want it.

Dorsal fin is far too short to be a hawk fish.

I will say in my experience when I think something is something other than what Ryan S. Thinks it is, Ryan has always been right.

Definitely a grouper. They make great pets given their requirements are met.
