Can I add more base rock once the tank is full of the proper water? I want to start the tank cycling, but don't have the $100 for base rock right now.

Absolutely, it might slow the cycle a bit but definitely, get the water mixed and in the tank. Add sand and whatever rock you have. Put a small piece of liverock in there or some livesand and it will be going in no time. Depending on how its done, some tanks never go through a cycle. My frag tank in my basement never had a cycle. I started it right up with just mixed water and liverock I had cured in a brute trash can. Added corals, macro and snails that week. Not saying this is the proper way to do it but it can work very well if the ratio of live rock and live sand to bioload is acceptable.

Good progress. How about some bottled distilled water for your refractometer?

Is that all it takes to calibrate it? How about RO/DI water?

Ro/DI should work. I'm on a well and that is what I use.

DI is in the clear housing on the left. Image isn't very clear. She is pretty slow. it says in the instructions to adjust the waste water output to be 4:1 if you have a premium system. mine is a value system, so i need to find a gate valve to adjust it with.

Guess I haven't really been keeping up with my thread. Here are some pictures from today. Still need the other half of my lighting, and more fish. Please excuse the dirty glass. Lol.

Checking in. Built this led controler this past weekend. Still playing with the led colors though.
