Part of my reasoning is I went to love the reef. Their tanks are awesome. What's different from my tank? Light and skimmer. I feel like I'm doing way more maintenance than I should be doing with poor results. They wipe the glass 2x week, empty unfull skimmer everyday and do a 10% water change. I'm thinking skimmer is the easiest to cross off my want/need list. I've basically been running skimmer less for 2-3 months. I've had the tunze which cost me $350 for a little over a year. Worst brand I could ever buy. Feels so cheap except for the pump, and operates like crap.
I want a beast of a skimmer.

I spent the extra money 4-5 years ago to get my super reef octopus 3000 skimmer and it's been one of the best things I've ever bought. Coralvue stands by the products they sell! About a year and a half ago after my warranty had finished. The bubble blaster pump had a material failure with the surface of the impeller. I emailed some photos and serial numbers to one of the coralvue sales reps and described the issue. Without hassle he shipped out a replacement $90 impeller the next day for free! No warranty left, no cost to me! They are most definitely a stand up company to buy from!

When I was upgrading my skimmer recently, I had 3 things required.............no chinese crap, quality build, and oversized for my system.
I was going to go with a Aquamaxx CO-1, but it needs 9.5" of water........and I only have 8". So my next best thing was a Skimz SM-161, Italian pump, great construction, and oversized for my system. It has a 8x8 footprint, and works great at 8" of water. It skims very well, I get 2 full collection cups per week. It has an air inlet adjustment and a flow adjustment, so you can fine tune it for your system. I'm very happy with it, and would definitely recommend them to anyone looking for a new skimmer.

I'm almost thinking a reef dynamics ins180. 500 clams scares me a little Rated for 150g with a heavy bio load. For that price I think you could get bigger and better. My skimmers rated for a 180g heavy bio and 240g regular bio and it's 300$.... You have a ton of things to choose from at the 500$ range. I'd personally go with a reef octopus. 2 year warranty on the pump and 1 on the skimmer! Check these out! The pump for the Aquamaxx Co-2 is 269.99+169.99 (sca-302) =439.98 Who would pay $439.98 for a modified Sca302 skimmer? When you could get the real thing with a for $341.99 on marine depot? Or you could get the Jns version of the co-3 for 349.99$ right now on Big Al's! www.bigalspets.com/cones-series-needle-wheel-protein-skimmer-co-3.html I'm thinking about this one! Good deal Sent from my SM-N910R4 using proboards

both look like an old red sea skimmer with a sicce needle wheel pump Nothing looks like the Aquamaxx Cones series...........they are a very unique skimmer with the small cones on the bubble plate.

Who would pay $439.98 for a modified Sca302 skimmer? When you could get the real thing with a for $341.99 on marine depot? Exactly. The body of the SCA is cheaply made, definitely not on par with the quality of the Aquamaxx. The acrylic is probably half as thick, which is why most of the SCA have cracking in the body.

I couldn't email them on that sc 210. I would buy that. Can you send me more info?
im liking that jns co3 or even u5. Thoughts on those 2? Seems the u series is more old school style. Like I said I want overkill even if I have to put the skimmer on a timer. Personally I'd love the u5, just on size. It has double the air flow rate but is $250 more. Is it 2x better, because of flow rate (going on principle not, resistance. Like in high school physics class where there is no friction) I run a high flow sump. Bubble blaster 5000, 1300g per hour. Also if I ever move I want a marine land 300dd. Just dreams down the road.
I dont care about name brand. I spent a crap ton of money on a tunze skimmer. It's never worked right. My sca 301 and 302 work better than that peice of garbage.
Also so most of the time the sca bodies crack durring shipping. They use a more brittle acrylic. I've personally never had a problem with my sca skimmers. the 302 is not what I want on my 125. I use it on my 40 and think that's a great match.

Says minimum order of 20 pieces? I don't think we'd have any chance of getting to that number at all. Does look like a decent skimmer but I doubt the warranty is worth shit. Idk? I've got at least 2 people interested in my curve 7 so an upgrade seems inevitable now. I found a really nice skimmer on clearance so hopefully I can talk the wow into it sooner then later. Dennis I wonder if you could up grade the pump on your tunze? Is the skimmer it self god sized? Just a thought.... the jns is the same skimmer for cheaper so if you like those you should jump on it before the sale ends. Marine depot was doing 10% off skimmers.
