Video from the 2014 MACNA event from Colorado. Subjects covering the listing of species to the endangered species act "ESA" by NOAA and other organizations. What it involves and how it can and will effect our hobby as a whole.

People in this hobby need to stop turning a blind eye to the possibilities that we could loose the right to keep, grow, aquaculture even common species of fish and coral simply because they may look like an endangered species. This is such a far reaching proposal. Not only will "take" as in wild collection, mariculture and onshore Aquaculture be essentially stopped in its tracks. But any industry involving diving, snorkeling, and even commercial shipping will be effected by this proposal. Any current shipping lanes that come withing a certain distance of any proposed species to be listed as threatened or endangered will be lost or need to be re routed. This doesn't just effect hobbyist.

Honey bees are having major die offs. But beekeepers are seen as helping them. This same rhetoric could be used to stop bee keeping. We are one in the same we raise animals grow and propogate because we are fascinated by them, we love what we do. If we are successful we often produce tangible goods in the form of frags or fish much like a beekeeper produced honey and beeswax. Unfortunately people are generally uneducated about not only what we do but corals in general. It is a public image problem we need to help pijac fight this and educate as many as possible about aquaculture and sustainable practices for this hobby. The public would be outraged if they tried to take away a beekeepers bees. We need their public image.
