Hey everyone, I need advice on what I should do with my display tank filtration. The tank is a 30 gallon that I got from someone on craiglist who was getting out of the hobby. He had it filtered with just a HOB filter, which I know is underpowered and not ideal. I have a few nano koralias in there for water movement, so I think that is ok. My question is- would it be bad to leave it as is? Or should I just suck it up and drain it and get it drilled? I didn't get it drilled when I got it because my stand can't fit that large of a sump underneath- maybe a 5-10 gallon, but nothing bigger than that. Draining it now would be a pain, but not the end of the world because I had a velvet outbreak and the remaining fish are all in the QT now I've thought about getting an overflow box, but I'm not super excited of the thought it draining onto the floor when the power goes out. Thoughts?

IMO a HOB filter and HOB skimmer should be just fine as long as you don't over do it with the bio load. What are planning on keeping in the tank, that would help determine your possible filter needs.

I have a 29g display with 10g sump. I use a homemade uchannel overflow box that foes not loose prime when the power goes out. I only end up with water when my skimmer goes nuts. I power it with mag drive 4.

well right now I only have the blenny in my picture and a blue green chromis left. I might throw a pair of perculas in there once the tank is up and running again, but that's probably it for fish. I really only keep softies and LPS as far as corals go. I don't have a skimmer (I've been meaning to get one) but I do have purigen and phosguard in the filter.
