So I've left my tanks in the hands of my co-workers I work in an office and someone is usually their.
1st time I asked one of my coworkers to unplug my light to reduce evaporation (I had made this decision after I was out of state) to reduce top offs (I leave gallon jugs of R/O water for top offs) Co-worker instead turned my timer ON instead of on timer tank got atleast 72hrs of straight light and a huge algea bloom.
2nd time I simply asked for top offs and paid a co-worker to do them on the weekend everything went fine.
3rd time I again asked for just top offs...apparently they forgot when in the office yesterday and maybe even the day before spent over an hour getting all the bubbles off my frags my rainbow acan was PO'd along with some other things...can't seem to find my pom pom crab....I was going to get an ATO for the Nano but decided to wait as Cultivated Reef is upgrading and I've called dibs on his old ato....I also trusted my coworkers with the simple job of pouring water into the back of a tank guess I expected too much.
I've heard of a lot of horrible tank sitter stories and I tried to simplify the task there was no water changes, no dosing, not even feeding....and well if it can happen it will.
What are your tank sitter horror stories.

I've never had anyone tank sit for me, but I know from taking care of tank for a restaurant owner for almost 4 years now. Thers a lot that can go wrong just from stupid things. Last year the carbon I was using to keep nitrates down was contaminated Kent carbon that almost wiped out his tank over night. The AC not getting turned down low enough in the summer that the tank over heats and corals bleach. Mag 2400 pumps shattering the impellers leaving the tank shut down for the majority of a day. Hamilton halide ballasts crapping out leaving the tank with shadows on one end. The list goes on. Luckily the owner is a friend and I consider myself on call anytime something happens.

I've heard many good things about that tank. I don't eat Thai so haven't been in... Some time when you are doing some work on that tank let me know; would love to see it.

Oh and glad to hear you've heard good things about it. Its definitely been a process. When I started taking care of it, it was a mess of cyano with maybe 5 types of corals that were all suffering. Now even though its a shadow of what it was before the copper contamination a year ago, its still becoming a jungle of a reef tank again.
