I have an Aqua Logic Digital Temp Controller that messed up yesterday. It took my tank to 90F before I caught it. It changed the settings to 220F. This past spring, I had the same issue when it raised my tank to 92F. I smelled the tank cooking before I found out how hot it was. I assumed that the temp probe had been removed because I found my kids playing in the refuge. I removed the unit because summer was coming, so I had no heaters running at all. The temp of the tank maintains temp between 75-80F in the summer with the lights. Winter might as well be here. So I hooked up the unit with a 500Watt titanium heater. It ran fine for a week plus. Then, pow 90F Anyone else have this unit, or similar issues? Should I get another temp controller, or a heater/chiller? www.aqualogicinc.com/products/temp_controllers/

I had one fail luckily the heater was set to 78 so it never went above that. It was a bad temp probe unfortunatley they cost $75 just for the probe. I'd spend a little extra for a controller I got a used Neptune apex Jr. For $85 and couldn't be happier.

That really sucks... How much losses did you suffer at 90°?

I am switching tanks and had all the good corals in another tank as luck had it. No fish loss. Sent from my DROID RAZR HD using proboards

Get a Ranco dual stage controller...........much more reliable unit made for commercial HVAC industry. This will do both your heaters and a chiller. If you are just controlling your heaters, you only need a single stage unit. I had bought the dual to run fans. Which would help if I had them plugged in . Funny how the Ranco looks like the same thing I have. I thing the guts are different. I have a DA Reef Keeper Elite, but I have read I can't use a heater larger than 300watts on it. I am going to give both companies a call. The controller might just need a part. Scoobnoob, I might need a house call too when you head up this way. Sent from my DROID RAZR HD using proboards

Digital Aquatics ES is what you need. It's an Expansion Socket that has 2 outlets on it, you plug it into a regular outlet, then there is a smaller plug that you put to the Reef Keeper powerbar. It has an internal relay that is triggered thru the small plug, but pulls the main power from the larger plug. I just picked one up for $25 and I use it with my 2 - 250w heaters on my Reef Angel. They retail for $50 online.

You just missed out on a HD expansion plug for DA on BRS. You need to diligently watch the forums as they come up and sell quick.

Yeah some stuff sells fast. Looking at a Ranco single for $20 on eBay at the moment.
My RKE is in a box at the moment. I haven't hooked it up since we moved down the street a few years back. God that thing confuses me sometimes.

Scratch that eBay (used) item. The bidding went too high when shipping was added. There are new units for $45 and free shipping. Doing more research, I found that the controller I have is actually a Ranco, with an Aqualogic sticker on it. The unit I have is actually a Ranco ETC-241000-000: 2 Stage, NEMA 4. According to ETC Supply, they state my unit has a memory issue and needs to be replaced. www.etcsupply.com/troubleshooting-the-error-code-the-ranco-etc-a-8.html
