I have used the tetra water conditioner for along time with out any problems salt and fresh. When I went to Petco last night all they had is Tetra Aquasafe plus. What do you guys use, have I really just been super lucky using the other stuff? I see that this is also cheaper then the others that I've seen on line. To be honest I never knew that there were others until today. Any feed back?

Get a Ro/Di! Lol no really, I know someone that has a full set up 4 stage all filters unopened and TDS meter, auto shut off. Membrane flush. It's loaded 125$ As far as water conditioner, I have always used and will always use Seachems prime. Big bottle is only like 7$ and it does everything. Removes heavy metals and locks ammonia. Tetra products are cheap and readily available but besides that I can't think of many other pluses. If we're talking regular fresh water tank (not planted ) then that'd be fine.

umm well I use it on my saltwater tank Your probably not having trouble now but over time using tap water and water conditioner over time can and will cause you a host of problems. Imo Are you on city water or well water? Have you had your water tested? I went without a Ro/Di for my goat couple months and now I have 2! lol only use one but I have a second one in the shed. They're not that expensive and the filters last awhile so there isn't many downsides to getting one. Sent from my SM-N910R4 using proboards

I was and always have been a firm believer of Ro/Di but after seeing Dong's tanks in Mass I have to question if Ro/di hype is just that a hype. Dong runs the water right out of his tap into a 5 gallon bucket, dumps in a few capfuls of the cheapest dechlorinator, throws a powerhead into the bucket and lets it mix for a few hours and then dumps it into his sump. Now I have known Dong for many years and this tanks have always been stellar. We do store tours down south at least once a month and invite anyone who wants to go to come. I am in no way saying that RO/DI is not good for some highly contaminated water but before making a comment take a ride with us and see.

The guy at the store says my water is alright from the tap. So far so good. I also live up in the Alton bog.

Dong runs the water right out of his tap into a 5 gallon bucket, dumps in a few capfuls of the cheapest dechlorinator This^^^^ Dong is a very experienced Reefer and I'd be willing to bet he knows what's in his water. Like you said this is all water dependent and you could easily spend just as much getting your water tested as getting an Ro/Di. Lots of mainers are on well water and most of our water problems are sediments that dechlorinator won't remove. Dong's most likely on city water and is mostly worried about chloramine witch should be removed by the dechlorinator. Assess your own situation and decide what you need or want. I personally get a big piece of mind knowing my water is clean and has very little if any contamination. But that's just me.... Sent from my SM-N910R4 using proboards

by using those does that not eliminate the good stuff from the water? That's why you choose a good salt brand. You using well or tap water not natural sea water. So in all actuality what the "good stuff" your removing? Your salt mix turns pure water into a synthetic sea water. In some cases even better because the add extra things that corals like. At the very least is be thinking about running my water through some sediment filters before adding dechlorinator. Ro/Di will more then pay for itself in the long run though Imo.... by using those does that not eliminate the good stuff from the water? The direct answer is yes, in makes your water as close to pure and absolute neutral as possible.
