sorry I dont agree on how this happened!
obama didnt want to wait for congress to get the data needed to outline the details of this preserve, so he just did what he wanted.....
I agree it is a good thing to protect the reefs,ocean.... what I dont agree on is obama just doing what he wants when he wants, like he does with everything... I hate the "its easier to apologize rather than ask permission" type of thinking.
the article mentions 4% of the U.S. tuna comes from these waters. but my questions are how much does tuna fishing affect these reefs? how is this going to affect the locals? what about all the leaky pipes already there (remember the molasses spill) O thats right obama didnt want to wait for the information needed to detail the preserve stipulations
all the petitions we signed to stop the govt from shutting down hawaiian fish coral for the aquarium trade? they just got shredded... everything we have been fighting for in that area is tossed out the window
Im just thinking if the govt shut down our ocean around maine it would shut down 1/3 of the state.... and he can just because he wants to! and this is because of a law written in 1906?

Having a president that does what he wants when he wants isn't really something new with Obama. I'd rather have some reefs (and tuna...because reefs serve as nurseries for tuna) left in the world than wait for congress to do something right.

Right I agree. I was only stating that Obama really isn't any different then our past presidents.
I really don't have a problem with the preserve. I don't think he'd of done it if it wasn't at all warranted. Tuna can be caught off the reefs.

We're talking about the president of the United States right? Go back through history, you'll find ALL presidents do what they want when they want when it's necessary.
He's the commander and chief. I don't really see the comparison anyways though. War and reefs? Lol

Sometimes with all the bureaucracy that goes on this bill would have been buried in B/S and by the time it got through the reefs could have been severely damaged or destroyed so again Great job Obama!!

It is because the next thing he does u might not agree with. doesnt matter weather you agree or not with the outcome. the constitution was written to keep the presidents from having too much power. It is the reason why it was written. supposed to be a government of the people, by the people, for the people. we vote our congress in office to represent our views and vote with the majority decision. He should not be able to throw that out. It is saying what the people want does not matter especially on a subject that does not need a speedy action like reefs. he could have waited

now if somone was bombing us and he did not have the time and had to act that is different u see. It is up to us to speak out against this even in forums or write your representatives. most do not and that is why they get away with these acts

Witch is exactly what I just said. He just started a "war" recently because there was a imminent threat to our country. He didn't have time to wait for people or congress.
