I have a female flame wrasse that did not eat today and has been hiding. She is swimming but is sticking to a small area under the rocks. I've noticed that she looks like she is gaping for oxygen. She looks fine, no physical abnormalities. The other two fish I have are fine and are not showing any signs of distress.
The only thing that is different is the addition of some mail order snails.
Parameters are fine.
Any thoughts?

There are a few empty snail shells lying around. I'm thinking that maybe there was some dye off overnight that may have caused a brief ammonia spike that burned the wrasses lungs. I don't think there's any reasonable chance of a recovery at this point.

perhaps the wrasse ate the snails and is sitting around like i do after thanksgiving supper might pull out of it

keep lights off and let her adjust. maybe add an air stone?

Is this in the 125?
I doubt a couple of snails dying would cause an ammonia spike in that volume of water.
I would just leave it alone, don't stress it out, and see if it comes out of it. Less stress = better health

5 weeks. She was showing signs of changing to a male as well.

I got a serpent star and 2 cleaner shrimp at unique on that trip.
