Everything I have seems to be doing great (devil armor poly, rainbow ricordia, and cats eye zoo) but he star polyps started shrinking back. The mat is disintegrating and the polyps themselves are smaller. All the water tests I have are right on target. Using rodi water, the t5 lighting may be getting weak, and I do plan on getting a new fixture soon. 10% water changed weekly. I try to add reef fusion 1&2 every other day. But over all no changes, I can't figure it put because it did very well for about two months...doubled in size and now it is dying.
any thoughts?

How's the water flow where they are? Should be pretty vigorous as they are not that great at shedding debris without it.
Also, anything up-current from them? Like a big soft coral (chemical warfare) or a stony with long nasty sweeper tentacles at night?

Nothing nasty upstream. Good point about flow. I did change from aqua clear 70 to a hydor as I had gotten a six line and it got sucked into the intake. Should have about the same flow and I angled it to minimize the change, but I did swap it out. Seems to have good flow over it the heads that are opening up are swaying and there does not appear to be any ditrus buildup on coral.

I have just noticed an explosion of brittle stars. Tonight I counted twelve. Any possibilities they are irritating it?

I have just noticed an explosion of brittle stars. Tonight I counted twelve. Any possibilities they are irritating it? Unlikely. I would look very closely for anything suspicious. You might have a nudibranch or snail that specifically (or preferentially) predates on star polyp. If a nudibranch it may look a lot like star polyp... Something like thisYou might need to irritate the star polyp to get it to close completely... Then the bad guys might stand out. If there are any.

Well not sure if it has to do with star poly dying off, but think I figured out why I had an explosion of brittle starfish. When I added the wrasse about month ago I bumped up my auto feeder, not much but I noticed this morning that there are a few pieces of food that the clown didn't eat. So I'm guessing the nutrient level has been going up. Not enough to cause water parameters to get out of whack, but enough to support a larger cuc.
