when did the cost of wood go threw the roof?? I am building my new tank stand and this thing is big! and a little over done my stand is designed to fit 5x 40b tanks on the top and enough room under the stand to set up a couple sumps and the tanks for my clowns...stand size is 8'x 3'7" plus I have about 30" of height under the stand for sumps and equipment materials used so far-- 13- 8'x 2"x4", 9- 8'x 2"x6", 2 sheets of 5/8" plywood, over 1/2 of a 5lb box of 3" deck screws, plus I have to go get 3 more 2x4 to finish framing it and some exterior primer sealer paint.this is the most expensive stand I have built, so it may be a wile before it is "finished" if I ever do. lol I will try to get a couple pics up tonight....

Life certainly hasn't been getting cheaper lately. It's all about scoring deals where you can to offset what you can't...

Yea wood isn't cheap. I've got at least $500 into my 125 stand.

Yeah... I feel you on that one. No one can afford to build anymore.

it will be around $200 to frame and seal the stand but thats the cheap part! I dont want to know what it would cost to finish it for a show tank...

I have a ton of 2x4's and some 2x6's smaller stuff to long pieces and short pieces. I'd have about triple what I do if I didn't leave some of it outside all winter. We can normally always get wood from Sarah's work because they build mock ups with 2x4's and 2x6's and tear it down and throw it away if no one grabs it. Can't remember the last time I had to buy wood. Carbon as well. I'm trying to build my Radion rail mounting kit out of carbon as we speak because we have extras and I think it'll look awesome with the radions anyways.

.. you wouldn't believe how much useable wood one can find at your local dump/transfer station.

being in construction I had tons of "left overs" but that has run low the past few years of not working... even still I wouldnt trust using old used wood on a stand that needs to be strait and will be holding a couple thousand pounds of water... I didnt have to build the stand as big as I did but I didnt want to build another in the future. this one should suit my needs for any future changes, if it dosnt I wont be able to get it out of my house without taking it apart anyway

Most of the time the boards are long enough to just cut the screw homes right out anyways. Also get mdf and that plywood thats made for floors. I personally think a carbon fiber stand & built in frag farm tank would be awesome! But it's not easy to build at home.

some of that would be good for a small stand but not so much for a stand 8'x 3'7" it was hard enough finding strait 8' lumber at the store...
