So I have purple firefish I got a couple of weeks ago. It won't come out of the cave it claimed, at all. I see it in the cave, and it eats fine. But won't come out into the open water. The only other fish I have is a Bangaii Cardinal, Yellow Clown Goby, and Pink Spotted Watchmen that lives in a hole with the Pistol Shrimp. Is this normal behavior for this fish? I messed all the rocks around in the tank when I added the firefish. I thought this fish would hang out in the water column more. Anyone have this fish? How does it act in your tank?

They are very shy fish. It may start comming out more as time passes. Generally in many situations with skittish fish, it helps to have what's called dither fish already established . All that means is it helps to have other small fish established that would be low on the natural food chain, when a skittish fish starts to notice that other small bait fish are out and calm, it helps to draw out the new fish.

^+1 I'll also add that though a lot of people only get one, fire fish like to be in pairs. I have a purple fire fish that used to act like this bit now it's out and about probably half the day. I've procrastinated getting it a mate. Hopefully I haven't waited to long..If you have the room I'd add another.

Give it time. That is what has always worked best for me. They come out eventually.

it will come out eventually... my pink streak wrasse didnt come out for about 2-3 months... another thing I do with my fish is every time I feed them I tap on the glass with my fingernails, now I walk up to any of my tanks tap on the glass and they all come up to the front glass looking for food

Just like dog training
