I have a couple of corals that are not happy right now, and I think I've narrowed it down to my ALK being too high.
Fresh 5 gal bucket of mixed water measures 15, water in my tank measures 12-13.
I'm using well water, no filters or anything. Never really had any issues before, but it seems my hard water is getting too hard.
So, is there any easy way to lower ALK? I know the tank will use it over time, but every water change I do is going to push it back up.
Or should I maybe do my next few water changes with RODI water and let that lower it.

also the use of certain types of sand acts as buffer

I have have some stuff for a fresh water tank that's supposed to lower ph. It's for an Angel tank because they like a lower ph. I think it's the same thing as baking soda? Like Ron said can't remember for 100% right now though been awhile since I had to worry about lowering ph or dkh

It appears his problem is his water is not acidic enough. vinegar makes water acidic. but u have to do it slowly. maybe half unit a day. but are u sure that your talking ph and not dkh. ph should be around 8 and dkh around 12

No RODI unit for me..........been there done that......not worth it. Waste 4 gallons of water for 1 gallon of water.....not happening. Sold it and not going back.
