We recently have brought in a few of these little guys to house in a 120g Reef that was currently fish-less. I must say these things are awesome! We love them so much that we are going to start offering them for sale. Here is a link to some information on Reef Gen's website: Bandensis CuttlefishHere is a picture of one blending into the rock work in our 120g Reef System Here is some information on pricing: ~2" Unsexed - $99.99 ea. ~2-3" Sexed - $149.99 ea. Adult Show Size - $249.99 ea. These guys tend to get lonely, so it is recommended that they be purchased in at least pairs. We will offer price breaks on multiple cuttlefish. Also please be aware that the average life span on these guys is approximately 12 months. The ages of the cuttlefish other than the adult show size are typical around 2-3 months. However, if you have a male and female they are almost guaranteed to breed which gives you the opportunity to try and raise some of your own so that you always have a pair. They are currently brought up to except live grass shrimp and is the preferred food as it give them all the proper nutrition that they need. We can supply these as well. About 100 grass shrimp will feed 4 of the smaller cuttlefish for approximately a month. For more information on these please feel free to contact us either here or by email info@fragfreaks.com.

I saw them yesterday at Frag Freaks & Unique Aquaria and they are super cool. Even better when it's feeding time, mine would be way over feed just so I could watch them in action.

I saw them yesterday eating at unique aquaria and I am really thinking about changing the new build. That would be after the divorce and settlement. lol

They are Awesome but that's a lot of money for an animal that probably won't make it past a year. Too bad they don't have a longer life expectancy.

They are Awesome but that's a lot of money for an animal that probably won't make it past a year. Too bad they don't have a longer life expectancy. From what I am told if you have a male and female they are guaranteed to breed in your home aquarium giving you the chance to always have a batch of cuttlefish available. I myself did not get the sexed versions of these guys, I got four of the unsexed versions and was told that there is a high chance that at least one will be a female, I will find out if I end up with a mated pair. If I am able to breed these guys, that will allow me to sell these them at a reduced rate, so stay tuned for that, the babies can be difficult to raise as the size of their food requirements varies from that of the larger juveniles and adults. It really is unfortunate that they have a short life expectancy because they are amazing creatures, I was really looking to go in a different direction with my reef and this was something that interested me a lot. They get friendlier by the day and associate myself with food so they actually come up to the glass and surface of the water when I get near almost like little puppies looking to be fed. I have actually have been told by Laura at Reef Gen that she can handle these guys and and hand feed them. As long as she has been keeping these, she has never had any experience where they are aggressive to people. I also have heard, although not recommended, that they can be kept with larger round fish such as tangs and butterfly fish.

joe used to breed these, they are very cool. (a pita but cool) I will dig threw some old files I have video of them changing colors....
the only downside is they dont live long if you hatch them they will live about a year, so you have to have a tank dedicated to breeding them.
not to mention sometimes their food will eat them, or they will just rot alive.....
imo-$250 for something that will live a month maybe... is crazy!! last time i looked you could get eggs for $5-$10 and hatchlings for around $25 not to mention reefgen dosnt sell them till their 3-5 months old, even a small 2" only has 6-8 months left

I myself would not but a show size adult, but they are offered and I wanted to state everything that is available to me. Most of their "Show" cuttlefish have very unique coloration to them like yellows purples etc, there is another local store to me who does have these and they sell them for $400+. They are more for trying to breed to produce more of these abnormal and vibrant coloration, not to be kept for a couple months. If I ever do get to the point where I can breed these guys perhaps I may get the more vibrant colored cuttlefish for that sole reason. The reason they wait that long is that they want to ensure that they healthy and eating properly so that they can endure the shipping process. There is a very high mortality rate in trying to hatch eggs and raise hatch lings, and shipping these two types does not improve the odds of having them successfully reach their juvenile and adulthood. Is it worse to have one for 6-8 months or pay for something that may never survive the transport. Everyone will have their opinions per usual. I would like to remind everyone that this is Frag Freaks vendor announcement thread and to be used for announcements by us and to answer questions about inventory availability etc. All personal opinions and discussion matter should be opened up in general talk portion of this site. We would like to try if possible leave these threads open for ease of viewing of our offerings. When the thread tends to get off onto discussions the main purpose of the thread is lost.I am more than happy to participate in a cuttlefish discussion lets please move it to the correct forum.
