For the u-channel you only need to drill a hole in the top of it and install a tube that you can suck out the air incase it breaks siphon. That should solve the problem of restarting it.

Yes this is what I did. Hard mounting a check valve that I can draw through when I notice air build up in the u channel.

put in a union so u can remove the box when needed then just shut off pump drill and replace turn back on pump
