As some of you on here know, the 220 gallon tank that I take care of at Cafe De Bangkok in Hallowell has been a problem tank from the start. Everything you can imagine going wrong has at some point. Combine all the things that have happened with a poor system design and large bioload, it's been a struggle to maintain the balancing act with this tank. Needles to say, despite my weekly maintenance, as a result of the combined issues, red flat worms have taken over in this tank. Some you don't even see. Today I decided to bring home a hammer and a frogspawn to dip for flat worms. Here's what came off. Warning it's graphic! Moral to the story, always dip corals before you put them in your tank!

Yup just a straight freshwater dip, back into a container of tank water for a rinse and then a second FW dip before going into my system. Not all corals will handle a FW dip though so it's a use caution sort of thing!

Yup it does, this is just one of the many challenges when maintaining a tank for someone else. I can only recommend the necessary changes to help cure the problem, until the changes are made though I'm Left trying to find ways to fight a loosing battle. This was all from just that one six head hammer colony just to give you an idea. I've added a six line, a melanurus wrasse, a springeri dottyback and two blue velvet nudibranchs to try and help control the flat worms but I'm pretty much left skirting the edge of a tank melt down with this one. I've pretty much resorted to fully removing a few corals at a time to bring home and treat out of the system every week. I kill them by the multi thousands each time.
