I like to empty the cup and clean it every day. kinda lets me know how tank is doing. usualy if there is a problem with algae or anemones are looking funny, there is a problem with skimmer or lights.

Haha not me I want my tank top be set up like this guys tank! It's 3 pages I think? www.reefhobbyistmagazine.com/magazine-tiled-q2-2014-36.htmlSays he's home 6 days a month at best and takes full care of his tank from his phone! Even made spray hoses to thoroughly clean his skimmer cup while away!

I empty my full skimmer cup every 3 days and have to scrub the heck out of it every time. this is why I dont agree with hang on containers collecting the skim, you think you are pulling more out of the tank but it is just the crud in the top of the skimmer tube that was pulled out days before you just didnt clean it
that guy must have one heck of a spray bar to clean the skimmer cup! and again what about the inside of the top of the skimmer when I clean mine its 1/4" thick crud

He's got a neck cleaner or whatever they are called. You should check out the article. I really wouldn't want to do it because I love working on my tank but it's still amazing to me the amount of automation some people put into a reef tank.

I wonder if it would be cheaper to pay someone to take care of your tank or fully automate it?

I wonder if it would be cheaper to pay someone to take care of your tank or fully automate it? Probably pay someone when you factor everything in. But I think he enjoys taking care of it even when away and also enjoys diy. It's an awesome tank and he has 5 angels if I remember the article correctly with a full out reef tank! I asked him and he attributes being able to keep all the angels to have the NS apex automatic feeder that feeds the fish something like 6 times a day in smaller portions. I'd love to dare to try that.
