I am looking for ideas on how to mount two 8-3/4" x 15-3/4" LED lights over a 48" tank. I would prefer to mount them on the tank instead of hanging them from the ceiling. I would be willing to purchase something, but don't want to spend a huge amount of money. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Not a lot of options to attach them to the actual tank. The only option is to bend a piece of conduit or if you don't want to bend anything you could do something like this s8.postimage.org/q0n4r3e1h/IMG_2378.jpgI also didn't want to hang from the ceiling just because I didn't have studs that lined up. My solution was to put a shelf on the wall and hang it from there. The shelf I went with was expensive but only because I wanted something nice in the living room.

Make a frame work out of square steel that would rest on the top of the tank, span the length of the tank, have tabs to mount the lights to, then have it powder coated to keep it from rusting.
Or make a wood hood for the tank, and mount the lights inside that with mounting tabs.

I believe Tucker from Lewiston made a mount out of wood for these exact lights. So if I'm right they'd be the best ones to ask.

Oh yeah and I actually started to build a bracket very similar to this awhile back but decided to do it another way instead. So I have a started bracket just like this if you guys want it? Free... it was for my tank so it's 48" long and would be a perfect start to the project for Tony if your interested? Hope your enjoying the frags I have Tony for you? Happy reefing hope to hear from you guys more often on the swap!

This was enough to get our minds working, but thanks for the offer. We should be up and running soon!

Jason is correct. That is how I mounted mine. It works great. It looks much better than that now though.

This is a forum right? Of course I don't mind! The more insight the better!! I'm going to be taking your advice on biopellets/GFO instead of a refug I think. Still debating though.

Best to find out everything about both things your trying to decide on and write out a list of pros and cons. See witch one makes more sense for you. There's many successful people that use both methods. For me it's was ease of use and trying to keep it simple. Didn't want to add more to my "to do list" then I already have.
