So I have NEVER tested for or dosed calcium, or much of anything beyond a water change for that matter. But I was worried that with such a small tank and being lps dominant that my calcium levels may be depleting faster than i renew them with the not to often water changes lol. Just tested calcium in my lps tank and it's at 460-480 ppm. Not to bad for being a "lazy reefer" lol But how can I get more coraline growth? In the little tank I had up as a frag tank it's starting to grow everywhere. I do nothing to that tank other than top off, and it doesn't really get water changes. Usually I add what I've taken from the lps tank to it instead of an actual water change. But there's also nothing in that tank other than one rock with some palys, no sand or anything. And a hob filter. But can't seem to get the pretty purple in my other tanks.

If you got enough calcium check your alkalinity. From what I understand those are the 2 main components of coraline. Also important for your Lps

I have read from numerous sources that steady Alk is desirable for coraline to grow.

I usually add a pinch of baking soda to my water changes and occasionally my top off. It should be fairly steady but I'll see if I have a test for it. I think it might be for freshwater tho lol

But if it's growing in the little tank it should grow in the other tanks? Tho I guess maybe it's used faster in the other tanks due to a higher bioload. The little tank has none, but it's also getting the already used up water from the other tanks.

Scrape a nice amount out of your tank that has it and put it in your other tank that doesn't.just throw it right in. Idk if this works 100% but I Did it when my tank was new and got it growing within about a week after adding it

Yea I've done that in the past. I think I'll add a little bigger pinch of baking soda and see if it helps. I got a lot of lps in a small tank

I was told by tyree "if your not struggling keeping calcium up you doing something wrong"

I haven't tested mag. I add baking soda and Epsom salts and hope for the best lol. But with such a small tank the dosage of anything is very small so it's usually just a pinch of this and a dash of that. I don't have a mag test tho

I can mix you up a batch of 2 part from brs? Well 3 part really. Mag, cal and alk. I have a ton of it and it'll be ready when you come get the lobo. I also have some left over supplements from before I got the 2 part. I have 2 bottles of cal witch is Kent (1 brand new and one almost empty) and a big bottle(about half full) of mag witch is fluval?
