Never had the need for a chiller. A fan across the top of the tank always kept my tank cool enough

Very hot days in Maine are far and few in between. But when we do get them I simply float frozen water bottles in my sump and problem solved!
Normally it's only like 2 weeks out of the year it gets hot enough to do this so imo it's not worth the cost of a chiller. Having 8 frozen water bottles on rotation in and out of the freezer is free and easy. Plus we always run 2 air conditioners so it's normally not a problem at all.

I run a Current USA 1/4 HP chiller all year round. I believe in redundancy if a heated fails the chiller kicks in and saves the tank. Oh yeah redundancy, my heaters run on their own external controllers and then through my Aquatronica tank controller. (Whisper)Redundancy

Only problem is depending on the size of your heater, if your heater fails and stays stuck on you could run four ac's and they will not keep your tank from over heating. Been there, seen this on past customers tanks.

Well hopefully they start making an affordable chiller someday!
I had to spend 1000$ on a generator I barely use when I lost power for a week this year. So the budget doesn't include a chiller for now.

Bought mine for 200.00 used 3 months off BRS. Deals on them come up often. I bought the one before this BNIB I think was another Current usa from a guy un in Northern Maine for 125.00 he was leaving the hobby and leaving the State and as he was leaving he hand delivered it to me.
