Last night I figured I'd clean my skimmer collection cup and top of my sump. After cleaning the cup I re adjusted the exit pipe of the skimmer but didn't realize I read the scale on the pipe wrong. After running the make up water for almost three hours and my sump not getting any fuller I looked and the skimmer was emptying everything I put into the sump. I figured I did about a 50 % water change and this morning nothing in the tank looks happy. Moral of this story don't work on your tank when you are exhausted.

wana come mess up on my tank, I could use a big waterchange at least thats all it did, you could have doubled the salt and killed everything (I did it once was so sad)

The good part was I was topping off with premixed water instead of straight RO so all the parameters were spot on.

I hope everything works out. Everything in the tank is probably unhappy.

Im running straight rodi water through my ato and my system decreases in salinity from 34 to about 32.5 in a week or so due to skimming I think. Are you adding salt to your ato water?

I've never had a salinity change due to skimming. Straight RODI for me in the top off water. Are you removing a lot of liquid with your skimmer? What size tank is this?

If it consistently does this try putting like a half a scoop of salt in your top off water so it has low salinity levels and hopefully you won't have this problem.
Don't put salt in your top off water though unless this happens EVERY time. You'd much rather it go down in salinity slowly to 32.5 rather then go up to 37.5 or 38

glad to hear!
you should never have to top off with sw. salt dosnt evaporate if you are adding sw top off to maintain salinity I would be looking for a leak somewhere...

He said he thinks it's from his skimmer?? Might be wet skimming just a little to much? But if it's consistently making the salinity go down that's probably not a good thing
