I'm sure I will get a variety of answers. I'm getting the salt to fill up my 210 as soon as I decide what to get. I have been using regular instant ocean in my 55, and wasn't sure if I should go with the reef crystals over the regular instant ocean, or would you recommend a different brand all together. I'm sure it's all preference but worth asking to see what others think. I have enough regular I.O. salt to mix up 160 gal. I'd like to use that and then finish filling tank w whatever I decide to go with. I do have a decent amount of corals mostly all LPS.

I had bad experiences with Kent Mari e reef salt it would mix with 500+ calcium and 5 alk there was always white crap in my bucket too. I liked tropic Marin pro reef but its expensive and everything always looked like crap following a water change. I've been using reef crystals and or instant ocean for over a year and I'm pretty happy the MG in regular I/o is a bit low so I dose my mix water to bring it up to 1325-1350.

I started with Tropic Marin Bio-Activ, I went through 2 buckets, then switched to reef crystals. It's half the price, similar if not better results.

Instant Ocean mixed with Reef crystals been using it for 28 years and no problems ever.

Reef crystals is fine. I can buy the 160 buckets some times for 45-50 depending on someone's mood. So that's what I use.

O.U.G. has IO for 44.99 and Reef crystals for 49.99 both are the 200 gallon box

It was $115 for 2 200 gallon cases on Dr. Foster & Smith with 5 day shipping. Seemed like a good price from what I've seen.

Instant Ocean or Reef Crystals. IO has worked great for me for about 26 years and I am unaware of any problem with their salt over that time. Something you cannot say about many other salts.
Some people swear by Reef Crystals. In most cases I think you're paying extra for elevated levels of things you can dose better yourself based on actual (measured) need.
However, I think Reef Crystals excels in some situations, specifically those where dosing may be a pain in the @ss and where water changes are the primary method of replenishing depleted nutrients. Examples:
- small tanks
- tanks with low invert bio loads
- systems with massive water turnover (water being removed and new water being added to the system), like retail, wholesale, or farm operations
