Hey everyone -
im just just starting the process of starting my first saltwater tank set up! I've been doing research for awhile now and I'm definitely looking to start slowly piecing together a nano reef. I want to do a 10 gallon as I have a tight budget and not a lot of room. I know these are hard, as people have already told me but I'm still gonna try! Does anyone know of anyone of have a light that would work for a 10 gallon nano reef ? Or any suggestions on the lighting aspect ?

A single or pair of par 38 LEDs would be a good option for that sized tank.

Yeah doesn't take much to light a 10g tank. Between 25-50 watts at the most. Depending on what you plan to keep for corals? EBay sells par 38 lights between 12 and 54 watts all under 35$. Then you just need something that takes a par 38 light bulb like a goose neck.

Thanks for all the replies ! For a 10 gallon with coral do you think I would need two or just one ?

Like I said before it depends on what corals you plan to keep? And witch light you get? If you got say a 40 watt light then you would only need one. If you got a 12 watt light then you'd need 2 and you'd probably only be able to keep low to moderate light corals. There will be so many variables in these kinds of questions that they can be hard to answer without you telling us what you plan to keep in the tank for coral? Softies, lps or sps? Mixed reef tank?

Just found these: pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&id=141204791394They're 21 watts apiece and already come with the clip! You could get one to start and another later on if you wanted to add corals that require more light.21 watts on a 10g tank should be enough for softies and some low light lps and sps. 42watts would be enough for just about anything. You'd also get more light coverage with 2 lights. Some people like have darker spots on the sides of the tank for mushrooms and other coral that like lower light. Attachments:

I'm planning on doing a mixed reef tank with some more and less lit spots. Has anyone ever used either of those lights and know if they're actually worth anything.

I would go with the true lumen strip light rather than a par30 or par38

Rob knows way more about leds then me but I've just never really liked the true lumen lights. But that's just personal opinion.

this is a 10g tank if it was a deep tank I would use 3w led but with a couple strips you would get better light spread at less cost,heat.....

Personally I'd go with a T5 fixture. It gives you a nice light that you can grow anything you'd like and they are fairly cheap. My father is a rookie tanker and that's what I set him up with. A 24" light will be a few inches too wide for the 10 gallon but they look fine. I'm using a 24" T5 over mine while I build a light.
