for me it depends on the day if the base color looks more yellow or more green. I will be bringing a small frag to the swap in a few weeks

I never ran a skimmer till last year (10+ years without one) as long as you take your time so your tank stays stable you will be fine

I don't think I could ever do enough water changes to not have a skimmer.
Maybe it's just me but having a reef tank with no skimmer seems so Barbaric!.........lol jk

it dosnt matter if your tank is "dirty" or "clean" as long as it is stable. its when you have a swing one way or the other that gives you problems

It looks like depending on what they are doing they are spending either a lot of time on maintenance or they are spending a lot of money on water changes and chemicals such as GFO and such getting good results. A few are doing nothing but water changes with ok to good results.

If you don't add carbon, alk, and mag your not going to get any growth. Salt mixes alone will not do it.

Everyone is convinced you don't need to dose 2 part. If you have Lps or sps you should be daily dosing cal and alk with weekly or so dosing of mag. It's the foundation of growth for these corals and they consume it quicker then you can keep up with just water changes.
