I was just reading something yesterday about people complaining that they bought peppermint shrimp to get rid of aptasia and when they had cleaned out all of it they then started working on their corals and a couple people (like you) even said they were going after smaller inverts/crustaceans? They say small pistol shrimp can do the same thing even though they're considered "reef safe"

So strange, I've never had an issue with peppermint shrimp.

I don't have a sump. And I don't keep him in my lps tank, which is the tank i feed, because he steals it from my corals. I would imagine in a much bigger home this wouldn't be an issue. He's in my zoa tank, which I don't feed. I've been bringing home small rocks with aptasia but he gobbles right up lol.

Pepermint shrimp are known scavengers, Jess, are you positive it's the shrimp killing the snails and crabs or could they be dying from another cause? It'd be a different story if you catch it in the act of attacking a healthy crab or snail but I'd place my bet on it being the same scenario as how bristle worms get a bad rap for killing things. They get caught on the dead carcass and blamed for the death but are simply doing the cleanup and not the dirty deed itself. Something to think about at least.

It was alive yesterday. I thought it was weird when my hermit died because I literally had just moved him to fix a plug. An hour later the peppermint was eating him. Don't know what would make all of them die but not kill him? He's the only critter left in there now. I just put some flake food in to lure out any other Nassarious but that was the last one.
