I would go with the sca 303 not sure why it is rated for less than the 302? the 302 uses a atman 2000 pump and the pump sits in the skimmer the 303 uses a atman 2500 and the pump sits under the skimmer, making more foam and more room... I would go with a 180g tank I love mine and you cant beet the 24" front to back 18" just isnt enough room, if you like to have sand showing
it all so depends on how much room you have I cant and couldnt decide... I ended up with a 180g (72"x24"x24") mix reef and a 40g rimless staphire (24"x18"x20") I would have gotten the 50g (24"x24"20") didnt want 24" wide in my livingroom
problem is price, how much do you want to spend plan on spending $2500-$3500 just to set up a 125g-180g $1200 tank $350-$1000 lighting $100 sand $200 rock $200 stand $300-$600 sump/pumps/skimmer
$700-$900 40g-60g starphire cube $500 tank/sump/stand/skimmer/pumps $100 rock/sand $150 lighting

The sca-303 has a bigger pump because it has to push the water further and isn't a bigger skimmer. (At least that's what the company told me when I bought mine) they're the same price so I would of gotten the sca-303 if it was bigger! Lol
What if someone was to order the sca-302 directly through the company and ask to upgrade the pump to the atman 2500? Wouldn't that do the trick? It already skims like a wonder. Wish I had an atman 2500 because I'd be the guinea pig!

atman 2500 dosnt fit in the 302 i had both. the 303 isnt much smaller but the pump inside the 302 takes up all the extra space you would gain from it being bigger. i think with the bigger pump and more room for the water to react with the bubbles the 303 may be a better skimmer

If its (303) better then the 302 then I can't understand why anyone would ever buy a skimmer anywhere else besides scaquariums?
When you factor in the price? I just don't see how you could Get a better bang for your buck?

Skimmer footprint: 9"x9.5"x18"H 6 Levels of water flow adjustments A 41watt, 2400 Liter/Hour flow Power Head pump is included. Pump specs: 110-120V/60Hz 41watt, (2400 L/h) Pump specs: Atman PH2500 110-120V/60Hz 45.5watt, 2650 L/h. Skimmer Footprint: 10" X 7" X 23"H Not really debating the subject just trying to look at them and compare? They seem to be very similar. But the 302 is shorter and wider w/pump inside but I personally think the pump being inside doesn't really make a difference because it doesn't look like much more room in the 303 because it's skinnier? Either way I think they are both nice skimmers for the price. Also Idk if anyone noticed but the pumps are only 250 liters an hour different and that's not much like 62.5gph? Attachments:

Filtration is less about volume of the tank and (way) more about the bio load. Match your filtration to your bio load.

go with the biggest you can afford or you will be getting a bigger one later. think the money you'll save by not buying everything for the smaller and then buying new when u want a bigger later
