One thing to remember is tiny particulates of sand or debris can stick to a mandarins slime coat. I've seen it happen many times. Usually first thing in the morning though after they have just come out of hiding. There's always a possibility that it's not ick at all on your mandarin.

That would be nice. He's not breathing rapidly or anything. He just sits there. Doesn't do anything, doesn't scoot and hop and flutter around. Just sits. He doesn't hide or anything. Wish he would eat. Sent from my HTC ONE

mandrins have a thick toxic slime coat, anything that does get on the fish will fall off even if it is ich if you are really worried about it I would soak some mysis shrimp in some fresh garlic juice and feed it
I just did this for the wrasse I got at the sale ich cleared up in 2 days. I also cranked the temp up to 82-84 warmer temp speeds up the life cycle of the ich. but if the fish is covered it might kill the fish with the bloom of ich

He's looking a little better, still got whatever spots but looks a little more alert. I'm surprised he's still alive honestly. If he would just eat that would be great

I wouldn't try to trap him as that will cause the fish more stress. Shut off all flow to your tank and spot feed him with blood worms and Mysis.

Shut off all flow to your tank and spot feed him with blood worms and Mysis. has worked for me for the past 15 years and with probably 50 mandarins. (when the lfs was open I would bring them home train to eat and bring them back to sell you can sell them for more if they eat prepared food lol )

I agree with training them to eat I use to do the same thing when I worked for a aquarium store, We used a 300 gal cube tank and used a 12"x12" plexi box as to not stress the fish. We are not talking about a wild caught fish that just came in swimming, semi healthy, and has some body weight. We are talking about a fish that is stressed, sick, and looks pretty frail the less stress you cause the fish the better for the fish. Your not going to force the fish to eat, the best thing you can hope for is to get the food directly in front of the fish and stimulate it enough to eat.

Sometimes mandarins need to have food in front of them for a minute to figure out that there's food in front of them! Lol If you used to train to feed in a 12" x 12" then her whole tank should be perfect sized then

I'm feeding the tank later today so maybe will entice him. He doesn't seem to interested in the pods crawling all over the glass right in front his nose lol. I always shut everything down when I feed because of my dendro so he will have plenty of time to decide if going to eat. The mysis I feed is really big tho, so who knows Sent from my HTC ONE

Take a small amount and dice it up and squirt it in his area With something like this. It's easier to get food close to fish that are jumpy and corals that need to be directly feed. They're pretty simple baby(free at cvs) medicine syringe w/air hose Attachments:
