So the last couple weeks I keep hearing clicking coming from my tank. No clue what it is, I've checked night and day for the source. The only thing I've gotten new is the zoa rock. It's about the size of one of those child size stuffed football's. I'm wondering if there's something hidden in the depths of that rock. If there's anything in my tank it hasn't bothered my shrimp, emerald,or my Nassarious snails. Oh the mysteries that go on in our tanks. But I'm really curious what in the world is making that noise.

If it's a mantis it's very small and hasn't bothered any of my cuc as of yet. I'm almost wondering if it's my emerald. Just heard it again and ninja into the bedroom and he's there munching algae off my merleti's. No signs of anything else. Pistols tend to stay in the sand? In burrows? I've been looking at night suspecting mantis but maybe it's not. It's driving me crazy not knowing lol

Set your phone up on record and go to the next room and when you hear the noise again grab your phone and watch in amazement as you catch the little bugger in action!!! In a perfect world this is how it'd happen but you could at least give it a try? If your emerald is out at least if you catch the noise on video you'll know if it's the emerald or not?

Thing is I could record all day and not hear it, it's totally random and not all the time. Just a couple times a day. I'll figure it out in due time I guess. I've never had an emerald make noises but first time for everything, since so far I've not seen signs of anything else. The search shall continue tho

Well whatever it is I caught a quick flashing glimpse of tonight. I was blasting the rock and it moved lightning quick in the rock it's been hiding in, and came in on. No clue what it was, dark, only about half an inch long. If it's a mantis then to small to mess with my snails yet, but i have some of those small snails that sort of look like Sun dials, so could probably them. But it's also in my lps tank which I feed. Time will tell what it is I guess

Look for sand moved about pistols tend to dig burrows under rocks as opposed to living in them at least that's my experience look for clean sand thats recently been moved it there is a tiny tunnel put a brine or mysis at the opening mine will usually come out just a bit under these conditions. If all else fails buy a shrimp goby if they play nice its a pistol of it becomes lunch you have a mantis.....jk about last part.

Will do!!! So far.....silence lol. Unless it got mad from me playing around the tank the night before it's likely still right in that rock. Whatever it was be it pistol or mantis, it's so small it will be a long while before you have to worry (if a mantis anyway)
