They only live for a very short time. Very cool though.

Can't you put them in smaller tanks to? I saw something on Mr saltwater tank tv about these fish awhile back maybe the video would be informative?

There's actually many great articles on Google about these fish and they do have a captive life span of 6 months to 3 years. If you can keep them healthy 3 years is along time and from what I've read most people that keep cuddle fish also breed the ass to always have new cuddle fish born when there older ones die. They just have a short life expectancy in captivity and in the wild!I think there life expectancy is shorter in the wild with normally isn't the case. Found this article thought it was a good read. There is probably 3 or 4 good articles when you Google it. www.reefkeeping.com/issues/2008-10/feature/

They should be in a bigger tank than I can keep right now. 20 glns at least. One cause they could ink, and doing that in a 5gln could prove lethal. Plus they require feeding= waste. While it's probably not impossible to keep them in a smaller tank, it would be a whole lot of work since small tanks fluctuate easily.

the 5g tanks you talked to joe about were all for his cuttlefish. imo- smaller tanks are better they are very messy so its easy to clean

The company that breeds them recommend you stay then in a smaller tank, species only(obviously).then cross your fingers they don't ink! Lol

I have the new tank I set up that doesn't have much in it. Maybe I'll debate it. I'm just a speaker on cleaning the tank lol, but I've always been interested them. I'd like to start from an egg tho, that way don't get one and it die a few months later. Their life spans are short so I wasn't to get the most bang for my buck, and they are pretty interesting critters. Rick at neas I believe is going to be raising them. Will have to check into that

I believe someone in either SWAM or Boston reefers was breeding dwarf cuttlefish

I had some several years ago. I can't remember the species though. I had 3 in a 40 gal long tank, but eventually ended up with one. They didn't seem to like the company of others. Very neat creatures if you can provide the correct environment. It was fun watching them stalk live green crabs.
