So I got some Rox carbon from BRS and some GFO to make my own chemipure. I also bought some media bags since the carbon is so small I opted for the smallest micron size they offered. The issue is now the bag gets clogged (even with filtr floss in the top of my media baskets) causing my media basket to overflow and no waters going through the media! What are some good sizes and where are they available? I'm planning on going to Easy saturday, I'm hoping they have somg.

I have a fairly fine bag for my GFO. I hang it in the baffles of my sump so that I get good flow around it

I think you will find that contact time is what is most important with either GFO or Carbon. High flow areas of the sump might not allow the media is work as well. In a reactor the flow is adjusted for GFO to just tumble on the top, which is around 20 - 40 lbs of flow. Carbon can be run higher then that, but in reactors containing both the flow would be about equal. The key with GFO is to have the flow such that the media does not clump, but not too fast that it gets pulverized. Carbon can be broken down with too much flow as well.

Look up diy phosphate/carbon reactors you can use a extra ro/di canister to make one like a brs reactor all you really need is a maxi jet cobolt preferably 1200 you can always dial it back. In all honesty there's absolutely no better way to run gfo/carbon then a reactor imho Attachments:

I use the brs dual reactor. I leave the first chamber empty as larger particles can be filtered and not clog the second chamber. Then I mix carbon to gfo 2/1. I use the maxijet and leave it on full. I don't let anything tumble. If you mix carbon and gfo you don't worry about the carbon or gfo crumbling. Also I use filter floss to make sure the media doesn't tumble. I've had great results.

My bag was 200micros I ordered some 800 but will look into reactors for my frag tank there is no more room in the nano and I've been happy with my media basket/fuge thus far
