In the front use the PVC in the bulkhead but not glued so that you can twist it to get the correct water height, that is how I have mine set up, I do have a over flow but it is mostly to hide the plumbing, for the back either glued in or threaded would be fine, but you definatly don't want it just pressure fit, like in the front incase it falls out or leaks.
